From the very first crayon, Nancy's been drawing. As from childhood, favorite subjects are the natural world. Animals, landscapes and botanical compositions are part of three distinct series of work. Rendered in great detail with layers of multiple weights of graphite and colored, metallic and charcoal pencils on a variety of papers, the effect is unique and very realistic. At a recent art competition, the judge mistook one of her pieces for a painting. Working in pencil for as many as 70 hours on a single 16" x 20" image, Nancy pays great attention to the smallest of aspects important to the sum of the greater image.A graduate of the Art and Architecture Department of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Nancy is a juried member of Xanadu Studios, Scottsdale, AZ (www.xanadugallery.com), the Tennessee Artisan Market at The Renaissance Center (www.rcenter.org) and the National Association of Women Artists, Inc., New York (www.thenawa.org). Locally, she is a member of the Arts Council of Williamson County, as well as founder of Women Artists of Middle Tennessee.A complete display of her originals, giclee, prints and cards can be found at www.fineartbynancyhilgert.com.
